QUESTION: I am overweight trying to control wt. can i have de-starched rice in my meals?
ANSWER: Hi Renu,
For your information, there are a variety of rice in the market. With regards to carb-content in rice, some varieties of white rice have high amounts of carbs compared to brown rice.
As you may see, consuming brown rice (high in fiber and low in carb), is a wise think if you want to lose weight and to be healthy.
If you think that the rice you use is de-starched (i.e low in
simple carbohydrates), then, go ahead and use it. But, be careful: do not have more than 1 meal with rice.
I know that in India, rice and bread (especially varieties of roti) are famous and most of the people like them. But, they are high in carb and fat (when extra oil is added to cook them); so, you must use them wisely.
Another thing I want to remind you is that limiting rice or food is not the only way of losing weight.
Exercising, avoiding alcohol and Diabetic Ketoacidosis smoking, etc are some other important things to keep in mind if you want to lose weight or be healthy without worrying about any disease.
All the best!
