HDL cholesterol is 79 is that bad?

QUESTION: HDL cholesterol is 79 is that bad?

ANSWER: Hi there,

It is very good that you are keeping an eye on your blood cholesterol level, which every person has to follow your sample.

There are 2 main things you should know when you look at the result of your blood cholesterol test.

  • The first thing is that it is good to have high HDL cholesterol level, like in your case. Most of people are trying to maintain the HDL cholesterol above 50 mg/dl, but you already have it.

The good thing about the HDL cholesterol is that this molecule is protecting your blood vessels from the atherosclerosis. The more molecules of this type you have, the better it is.

Therefore, a result of 79mg/dl of HDL cholesterol in your blood is something really good and you have nothing to worry about.

  • Second – it is good to have low LDL cholesterol level, because the high concentration of LDL cholesterol in your blood is leading to atherosclerosis.

Remember that you have to maintain the LDL concentration below 200mg/dl. In addition, the borderline of LDL cholesterol is 239mg/dl and when your result is this or higher, you have to take precautions.

With precautions I mean not to start taking drugs, but to start living healthy lifestyle - diet, exercises, reducing stress actions.

  • The third thing that does matter in here, is the ration between HDL and LDL, which has to be 0.3 and the perfect one is 0.4.

You can calculate your own HDL/LDL ratio by dividing 79 to the number of your LDL cholesterol result. This ratio is important to calculate the eventual risk for cardio-vascular diseases (CVDs).

Generally, people with ratio lower than 0.3 are at higher risk for CVDs and those, who are above 0.3 are having no reason to worry about CVDs.

I’m sure that in your case, the ratio is going to be above 0.3 and everything I can say is to continue with what you are doing to obtain such a great results.

    Hope it helped!

my bad cholesterol is 74 is that good or bad?

QUESTION: I did the lab test and my bad cholesterol is 74. Is that good or bad? My good cholesterol was 50, total cholesterol 189. Are they ok?

ANSWER: Your LDL (bad) level is considered optimal (or normal); therefore, you should not be worried.

With regards to HDL (good) cholesterol level, that is also within the desiderable (normal) limits as well as your total cholesterol (less than 200 mg/dL).

Keep on with these figures to stay healthy.

    is 205 cholesterol bad?

QUESTION: My lipid profile showed cholesterol level of 205; is it bad?

    ANSWER: Hi,

According to your lipid profile reading, your cholesterol is slightly higher than 205. To judge better, I need to know your HDL, LDL and triglycerides levels.

Such data will help understand why your cholesterol (I hope it is total cholesterol) is 205: is it because of high HDL or high LDL levels?

In either cases, I don't think it is worrisome problem, however, you should pay attention to your diet, physical activity and your lifestyle habits in order to prevent lipid profile disorders.

    All the best!
